On the afternoon of Rosh HaShana and ideally before Yom Kippur, it is customary to go to a flowing body of water, and recite special prayers to symbolically “throw out” our sins into the water.
It is customary to do Kapparot before Yom Kippur either with chicken or money. The members have the opportunity to do it in the synagogue by circulating 3 times the pledged amount, and after that, placing it to charity box that will be used for the needs of the community.
